Christmas Fayre and Raffle

The Christmas Fayre was enjoyed by those who came and took advantage of the last minute Christmas shopping opportunities provided - from cards, gifts, toys and handmade chocolates. The delicious refreshments were particularly popular, with hot soup and rolls, cakes, mince pies and drinks all being served. Father Christmas also paid us a visit and children were able to visit him in his grotto in our multi sensory room. Overall we raised just under £500 for the Centre. A big thanks must go to those who ran stalls on the day, everyone who came along to support us and all those who donated the many wonderful prizes for our Grand Christmas Raffle.

Beryl Griffiths Flowers

Local demonstrator, Beryl Griffiths, led a Flower Arranging evening on 2nd November at Clearwell Memorial Hall in aid of the Centre.  This funny and interesting evening was enjoyed by both regular and new supporters of the Centre.  The demonstration of arrangements was followed by refreshments and a Raffle, including some of the flowers kindly donated by Beryl.  The evening raised over £130 for the Centre.  Many thanks to Friends of the Centre volunteer Jann McShane for organising the evening.

Jumble Sale - Saturday 15th October

Following our successful sale in March, the Friends of the Centre held another Jumble Sale at Lydney Town Hall on 15th October.  Once again, there was a huge range of clothes, toys, books and bric-a-brac to go bargain hunting through.  There were also lots of delicious cakes to have with your tea or coffee when you needed to rest after all the rummaging.  Thanks to everyone who helped the Jumble Sale - whether you donated items, ran stalls or came and spent money at the sale. We made £177.89 on the day. Bags2School collection of the rest of the clothing Jumble will be on 11th November so will be able to add to this total then!

Charity Golf Day

Attendance at The Charity Golf Day held at Bells on 20th August was affected by the less than summary weather but those that braved the elements dug deep and raised £170 for the Centre.

Thank you to Steve for organising the event on behalf of the Centre...there are already plans for another one.

Fun Day

It was beautifully sunny when the Mayor of Coleford, Sue Merrikin, opened our Fun Day at 11am on Saturday 2nd July.  This set the mood for a really enjoyable event - packed full of exciting stalls, games, our Raffle and food from the colourful cake stall and the BBQ.

Visitors enjoyed the live entertainment from Lydney Training Band before our Children’s Fancy Dress Competition and were then seranaded by Jessica Burton.

The day finished at 2pm following the Raffle, drawn by Chair of the Trustees, Terry Williams.

Totals for the event are being finalised, but the money raised is in the region of £1200.  The Fun Day is the Centre's biggest fundraising event so MANY THANKS go to all those who supported the event on the day, made donations and offered their services.  Special thanks must go to the team who put in such hard work to organise it.

Ann Summers Party

The Ann Summers Party held at the Centre on 24th June was a small but lively gathering raising about £60 for the Centre.

Thank you to Sarah for running the evening on behalf of the Centre.

Garden Party

The beautiful grounds and excellent live music made up for the rather dismal weather at our Garden Party on Sunday 29th May. It wasn't the busiest of afternoons but all those who came had a very enjoyable time!

Many thanks go to all our stall holders, entertainers and those who donated their time and services to run this event. Special thanks to Andrew and Jane for allowing us to use their beautiful garden and for inviting us back again!!

3 Charities Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk

Many thanks to all those who turned out to the Sponsored Bike Ride & Walk on Sunday 8th May - despite stormy weather predictions and a pretty dismal Saturday the weather was perfect for the event (if a little windy!)

Sponsorship is still coming in but early indications suggest that the event has done better than ever before - both in terms of numbers of participants and in the amounts raised.  Takings on the field raised in excess of £1000 and some of the cyclists had been promised large amounts of sponsorship – one £1500 and another two of £500, plus there is already £1000 on the Justgiving site on our four pages which are running at the moment.

If anyone has sponsorship money to pay in, probably the easiest way is to keep the cash and pay it in on line via Justgiving, remembering to tick the gift aid box if you are a UK tax payer. Alternatively , cheques should be payable to Friends of the Nigel Hunter Nursery and marked on the back 3cc Bike Ride.

Running For The Centre

Matt James and Mike Roberts at the start of the Forest Half Marathon

As you may know The Forest Half Marathon drew an enormous number of entries this year, over 2,000 ran the 13 miles over grueling forest tracks on Sunday 28th March.  Two of those runners, Mike Roberts and Matt James both ran to raise money for the Centre.  The day brought perfect spring weather with sunshine but not too hot.  Sporting their specially printed T-shits by Victoria Lane of T3 Designs, Lydney, Mike and Matt set off and both achieved a fantastic time of 1hr 55 and 2 hours respectfully.  Well done to both for a fantastic achievement.
