Many thanks to the Slimming World group from Coleford who collectively lost an impressive 650lb to raise money for local charitities. The group presented Centre staff Louisa and Georgina with a cheque for £35 on Monday 8th August. We very much appreciated their support.
On Wednesday 28th July, representatives from the FOD Motor Club visited the Centre and presented us with a cheque for £5066.39 raised at their Charity Night in May (see below for details!) Our thanks go to the Club for choosing us as their charity and to their supporters for raising such a wonderful amount!
We were delighted to receive a cheque for £178 from Richard Bennett on behalf of 'Rank Outsiders AFC' from the charity football match held between the clubs' Veteran Section and their sponsers The Royal Forester Public House. They are hoping to repeat the experience during the summer and we will be cheering them on!
Forest of Dean Motor Club Charity Night
A big Thank You to the FOD Motor Club and their supporters who raised over £5000 for the Centre at their Charity Night at Cinderford Rugby Club on Friday 20th May. The Centre's continued provision is due to the generosity of such groups who organise events to raise funds on our behalf and we are very grateful for their support.
Sling United FC have been holding a variety of Fundraising Events with the friends of Charlie Mitchell to raise funds for the Centre. The events, including a Race Night at the end of April, have raised over £1000 to go towards purchasing specialist equipment for the Centre.

On June 30th 2011 at 5pm, the Contract Supply Team from GSK plan to set off on a journey that will hopefully see them climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours.
Dave Uttley, Lisa Watkins, Jamie Holland, Gary Burford, Sarah Ward and Hannah Thurston-McGowan will take on the ‘National Three Peaks Mountain-endurance Challenge’ on behalf of the Centre, which was nominated by their colleague John Shaw.
The challenge has a history of over 40 years, in which participants attempt to climb the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales. The mountains will be climbed in the following order:
Training is already underway led by “ex-military guru” Laddy who will be joining the team for the challenge. Other important team members are the two drivers who will be responsible for planning the routes, cooking the food, driving and avoiding all road incidents and traffic – the most common cause of failure in meeting the challenge.
Team member, Hannah, told us about their latest training session:
"We had a training session last night which was tough – a couple of us have colds and were finding it hard but we all made it to the end in record time. It’s nights when things are difficult though, that really forces the team to work together which will be more invaluable during those 24 hours than our level of fitness. We also had a meeting after the walk last night to discuss logistics, who’s bringing what, kit list, meeting times etc. We were talking about what food we would make on camping stoves and settled on spaghetti Bolognese and chunky soup for breakfast. Someone made the suggestion that we have chilli for dinner and beans for breakfast and then light the fumes to make the bus go faster, that did make us laugh!"
We wish them the best of luck with this - they are hoping to raise over £2, 500. We will be having a sponsorship form for this event at the Centre or you can support the Team by clicking here! We are pleased to help by loaning them the use of our Mini-Bus for this event.
Further details can be found on the Three Peaks Challenge site.
