Nurture Group
This is a parent and toddler type of group for parents to come along with their child, who has a special need/disability between the ages of 0-3. The parents/carers have the opportunity to play with their child and meet others who are in a similar position to them. Because the children all have a special need the parents feel relaxed and able to talk through concerns and issues without fear of judgment and comparisons. All activities are geared to encourage development, with specialist equipment provided for those children who would benefit. Ideas are given to the parent/carer on activities they can do within the home to help their child’s development and they also have the opportunity to access toys and equipment from the toy library. The Family Services Manager and her assistant provide support and advice on a wide range of issues. The Forest Portage Worker is present during each session as well as visits from the Physiotherapist and Speech and Language Therapist. This group is free of charge.
